Former Board Chair Honored

2015-03-05

The City of Atlanta, the Board of Ethics, and the Ethics Office honored former Board Chair, Caroline Johnson Tanner, at the Board's February 2015 meeting. Appointed to the Board of Ethics by the Atlanta Bar Association in 2008, Mrs. Tanner was re-appointed in 2011 and served as the Chair of the Board from 2011 to 2014. A thoughtful leader throughout her tenure, she provided astute, practical advice; interpreted the city's ethical standards in a sensible manner; ensured that the Board adhered to the purpose and text of the Code of Ethics; articulated cogent reasons for her decisions; and dealt with violators in a firm, courteous, and reasonable manner. Mrs. Tanner was also key member of the team which recruited, interviewed and selected the second Ethics Officer for the City of Atlanta. Her sound judgment, thoughtful analysis, intellectual rigor, and strength of character will be sorely missed.
